As a relationship counsellor, I am genuinely committed to helping couples and individuals heal emotions and transform the relationship with themselves and their partner by talking, listening and responding to each other in a different way that reconnects and restores emotional closeness and physical intimacy.
In my therapeutic practice, I use an integrative model, combining Rogerian Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, Gerald Egan's 'The Skilled Helper' model with predominantly Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples and individuals which focuses on healing and strengthening emotional bonds.
I am bi-racial with a Danish mum and Nigerian dad and moved to London from Denmark in 1997 to study and stayed on to live and work. Having personally experienced the benefits of couple counselling, I decided to retrain as a relationship counsellor.
As a relationship counsellor, I act as a peacemaker with the neutrality, knowledge, skills and experience needed to heal and transform relationships. There is simply no room for taking sides and trying to find the ‘bad guy' in the counselling room. Everything discussed is strictly confidential and handled with warmth, care and sensitivity.
I have a Certificate in Counselling Skills from Mary Ward Centre, followed by a Diploma in Relationship Counselling from York St John University. I also trained as an Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) practitioner with nlpNorth East. I have undergone extensive Continued Professional Development (CPD) training over the years especially within EFT having undertaken the Externship in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples as well as the EFT Core Skills Advanced Training.
Aside from my private practice, I am also a relationship counsellor with Marriage Care, a charitable organisation that provides a relationship counselling service across most of England.
I am also the part-time Web Editor for the Directory of Social Change (DSC) where I am responsible for coordinating, creating and maintaining the DSC website, intranet and producing monthly e-newsletters.
My technical background obtained through degrees in chemical engineering and information technology, provide a versatile base for jargon-free writing about new and emerging web technologies.
I have worked for various organisations, including Pira international, bfmmedia, and FAST delivering information and content for websites. My sound writing, editing and proofing skills come from my work experience and a postgraduate certificate in Periodical Journalism from the renowned London College of Communication (formerly London College of Printing).
